Project Officer - Biosecurity - St George
- Manage grant-funded construction activities to improve biosecurity
- Coordinate wild dog exclusion fencing project
- Stakeholder engagement - government agencies, landholders, contractors, suppliers
Balonne Shire Council is seeking an environmental management professional to coordinate biosecurity projects within the Balonne region. This is a temporary contract until 31 May 2022 with a combination of office and field-based tasks.
The Project Officer - Biosecurity, will support the roll out of the Wild Dog Exclusion Fencing project, a key economic initiative for the Balonne region. As the Project Officer - Biosecurity, you will liaise with landholders, suppliers and contractors to ensure that the fencing design, materials, and exclusion fence construction is compliant and in accordance with council's planning standards.
Reporting to the Manager Rural Lands and Compliance, the Project Officer - Biosecurity will provide support for stakeholder engagement workshops, coordinate meetings and inspections on private properties and manage grant-funded construction activities.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain working relationships with landholders, contractors, suppliers and government agencies
- Manage funding and fencing contracts with landholders
- Liaise with council procurement team to develop preferred supplier panels
- Assist with contract specifications, monitoring and reporting
- Management of pest flora and fauna in the region
Essential skills and experience
- Qualifications in natural resources management, environmental sciences or land management
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience in managing budgets for government-funded projects
- Sound stakeholder engagement skills with a positive and collaborative approach
- Critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills
Experience in working with GIS software (ESRI) and the ArcGIS Collector application is desirable and previous experience working in a local government will be highly regarded.
