Job Description
Cook Shire Council is seeking a highly experienced and capable Director Community, Economy and Innovation to create an environment of engagement, innovation, performance, continuous improvement and community outcomes.
A professional and adept communicator with a strong partnership focus, you will ensure broad engagement and a partnering approach, building trust and confidence in the Council. You will work with stakeholders at all levels including the Cook Shire community, the Indigenous communities of the Cape, public service agencies and businesses and investors. Your engagement with the community will inform the specialist advice and direction you provide to the elected members of Council and its executive and your actions will be transparent.
Theoretical knowledge and qualifications in community development, business or economic management as well as proven experience in such roles in local government are important for this role. The Council has a strong focus and desire for innovation in its service delivery, and your ability to take ownership of and implement the ideas of the ELT will be essential in this role.
Community development will include driving performance improvement across Council-run facilities including the library, pool and aged care facilities. Responsibility for the delivery of Council's 48-day 2020 festival as the project sponsor and champion will be negotiated with the preferred applicant.
Strong leadership skills are essential and the development of individuals and teams including enhanced performance and cultural development strategies is important.

Qualifications and experience
-
Significant experience in a similar role in a local government.A Bachelor's degree in community, development, business, economics or similar.

Postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.

Economic development experience and ability to facilitate sustainable economic outcomes.

Experience of working successfully in remote and Indigenous communities.

Strong leadership and team culture development experience.
About the Council
Council has an annual budget of $20,000,000 of which approximately $3,000,000 is General Rates Revenue and employs approximately 130 staff. Significant external funding for capital and other projects is also received.
