Job Description
Manager – Governance and Risk Services | Maranoa Regional Council | Roma, Queensland
Lead governance, risk and accountability in a strategically significant local government role.
Shape organisational integrity, risk maturity and continuous improvement.
Executive-level remuneration and a highly liveable regional lifestyle.
Maranoa Regional Council is seeking an experienced Manager Governance and Risk Services who is equally comfortable setting direction and rolling their sleeves up to produce high quality work. This newly established role is central to strengthening governance maturity, embedding enterprise risk practices and lifting public accountability, and will suit someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a small, high-impact team.
This is a practical leadership role with a clear mandate to drive, deliver and guide governance, risk and business improvement outcomes, not a position focused solely on strategy or oversight. While the role works closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, day-to-day impact will be achieved through close partnership with the Director Corporate Services and direct involvement in shaping frameworks, producing key documents and embedding better practice across the organisation.
As the Manager Governance and Risk Services, you will report to the Director Corporate Services and work closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Councillors and the Audit and Risk Committee. You will provide high-level advice, coordinate critical corporate and statutory documents and ensure governance frameworks, risk systems and reporting processes support sound decision-making and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
Providing strategic leadership across governance, enterprise risk, audit and assurance and business improvement functions.
Leading the development and delivery of key corporate documents, including the Corporate Plan, Operational Plan and Annual Report.
Embedding a proactive, organisation-wide risk culture and overseeing enterprise risk frameworks, registers and reporting.
Coordinating support for the Audit and Risk Committee, including agendas, reporting and action tracking.
Driving structured business improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, performance and organisational capability.
About You
You are a confident governance professional with experience operating in complex stakeholder environments, ideally within local government or the public sector. You bring strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to influence leaders and teams without relying on authority.
You will hold tertiary qualifications in governance, law, risk management, public administration, business or a related discipline, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation and contemporary governance and risk frameworks. Experience producing high-quality public-facing documents and supporting audit and assurance functions will be highly regarded.
Why Roma
Roma offers strong community connections, excellent amenities and reliable air connectivity to Brisbane. Maranoa Regional Council provides a welcoming, professional workplace with a stable leadership environment and a genuine commitment to high-quality governance and public service.
