The City of Gold Coast is seeking a seasoned professional for the critical role of Manager Council Business (City Secretary). This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the governance framework of a thriving local government while enjoying the unique lifestyle the Gold Coast offers.

As the Manager Council Business, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless Council operations, providing high-level governance advice and fostering productive relationships with Councillors, executives and external stakeholders. Reporting to the General Manager, Office of the CEO, you will lead initiatives that elevate the quality and consistency of Council reports and ensure all meetings and decisions comply with legislative obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership and expert advice to drive governance excellence.

  • Coordinating Council meetings, managing agendas, minutes, and resolutions.

  • Ensuring quality control across Council reports for uniformity and accuracy.

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of governance policies.

  • Engaging with stakeholders to advance Council objectives and community outcomes.

This dynamic role demands hands-on leadership during Council sessions to maintain smooth operations, with flexibility afforded during non-session periods for strategic planning and improvement projects.

About You
The ideal candidate will have a degree in governance, business or public administration, along with significant experience in local government or similar environments. You’ll bring strong leadership skills, a meticulous eye for detail and an ability to navigate complex political dynamics.
