Mareeba Shire Council is seeking a senior human resources professional to provide expert advice and leadership in promoting and nurturing an engaged, safe and high performing workforce and organisation.

The manager is responsible for the oversight and management of all facets of people and culture functions, is Council's subject matter expert on all HR issues and provides relevant strategic advice as a member of the senior management team. The manager leads a small, high performing team of professionals skilled in HR, WHS and payroll functions.

Opportunities and Challenges

  • Strategic Contribution - engage with the Executive and Senior Management teams in the strategic development and operational management of Council.
  • Culture - lead all facets of the ongoing development of a high performing, collaborative and trusting workplace culture.
  • Workforce Efficiency - provide leadership and expertise in promoting and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team and across the organisation.
  • Operational and Risk Management - provide high quality support and advice in areas of expertise to employees and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation with a strong focus on minimising and managing risk factors as they relate to both personal safety and corporate compliance.

About the Person

Mareeba has a progressive, innovative but practical working culture, and candidates who are self-driven, pragmatic, adaptable and natural problem solvers will thrive in the organisation.

Teamwork and collaboration are key strengths in the team, and HR professionals who have experience working in cross functional roles in multi-disciplinary organisations will be well equipped for this position.

The manager works with all levels of the organisation and must be approachable, credible and have the ability to successfully engage audiences from the operational workforce through to the council chamber.

Working and Living in the Region

Employing around 240 staff and with a budget of $50m, the Mareeba Shire Council provides a strong support network and a challenging work environment, combined with flexible working conditions that enable its people to enjoy all that the Shire and far north region has to offer.
