About the Role
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, you will:
Lead and manage the governance, integrity, and risk functions across the Council.
Provide strategic advice on governance-related matters, including administrative action complaints, public interest disclosures, and councillor conduct.
Oversee the enterprise risk management framework, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated.
Ensure Council is prepared for disaster management and oversee the Disaster Management Centre.
Manage the internal audit function and ensure compliance with statutory and legislative obligations.
Foster a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability within the Council.
Key Responsibilities
Advise the Executive Leadership Team and Councillors on governance and integrity matters.
Manage corporate planning, including the Corporate Plan, Operational Plan, and Annual Report.
Provide frank and fearless advice to the CEO and councillors, ensuring alignment with governance standards.
Lead a team of approximately 12 staff, including coordinators for Internal Audit and Disaster Management.
Ensure the Council is compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Oversee the development and review of policies and procedures.
What You’ll Bring
We are seeking a leader with:
Tertiary qualifications in law, governance, risk management, or a related field (legal qualifications highly valued).
Proven experience in a specialist governance and risk management role.
A track record of providing strategic advice and managing corporate governance frameworks.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative and high-performing culture.
A commitment to transparency, ethical leadership, and public accountability.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage complex issues.
