Hobart City Council is seeking a Manager Development Appraisal to lead the development assessment activities of the City and provide expert technical advice to the community, the Council, and other stakeholders.

Hobart City is booming, and the Manager Development Appraisal will have a leading role in balancing the at-times contrasting demands of achieving city planning goals and the expectations of community, elected members and the development industry.

Major projects are underway, such as the relocation of the University of Tasmania to the CBD and inner-city redevelopment, and this provides an outstanding opportunity for a development planning leader to shape the future of the city.

Success in this role requires:

  • High level expertise in managing the business of development appraisal in a fast paced, high volume city council context.
  • A working style that is focused on outcomes, collaboration, customer service, project management discipline and stakeholder management.
  • A personal style that is decisive, resilient, politically attuned and focused on excellent planning outcomes, communication and customer service.
  • Experience in leading technical teams that operate with tight deadlines and high levels of public interest.

Working and Living in Hobart

Hobart offers a contrasting blend of heritage, scenery and culture, with world class activities and attractions nearby. Nestled amongst the foothills of Mt Wellington, Hobart combines heritage charm with a modern lifestyle in a setting of exceptional beauty. It's no wonder Lonely Planet has called Hobart one of the top ten spots to visit in the world right now.
