Governance and Legal Coordinator

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking a Governance and Legal Coordinator to support Council's corporate governance framework to ensure a high level of organisational performance and compliance with relevant legislation.
Reporting to the Manager Governance and Administration, the Governance and Legal Coordinator will provide professional and confidential advice, support and assistance with the development, and implementation of council's governance, compliance and policy frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor legislative compliance requirements under the Local Government Act 2009 for the whole of Council.
- Provide legal research and advice in moderately complex matters to Council under the supervision of the Manager Governance and Administration.
- Assist in the development and review of policy and procedures in several areas including delegations and instruments of appointment.
- Develop constructive internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Personal Attributes and Qualifications Required:
- Substantial experience in a similar role in Local Government, or a role within another industry sector that will enable the transition of skills to Local Government.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in the administration and interpretation of legislation and policy.
- High level of knowledge of corporate governance functions and strategic initiatives including processes, policies and systems, preferably in public sector environment.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Tertiary Qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce, Public Administration or associated discipline.
