Ashburton Shire Council is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead one of Western Australia’s most unique and resource-rich regions. With vast natural assets and a rapidly growing community, Ashburton Shire offers an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary leader to shape the future and drive sustainable growth.
As the CEO, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership across all aspects of the Shire’s operations, from managing key infrastructure projects such as the expansion of the Onslow Airport and the development of our eco-park, to building and maintaining strong partnerships with resource companies, government agencies and the community. You will lead a committed team of professionals, foster a positive workplace culture and ensure that Ashburton Shire continues to thrive long-term through sound financial management and sustainable practices.
Key to your success will be your ability to engage and build trust with the community, ensuring that their needs are at the forefront of decision-making. You will bring a strong background in local government, commercial leadership and infrastructure development, with the ability to navigate the complexities of a resource-based economy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic leadership to the Shire, ensuring alignment between Council operations and community priorities.

• Offer high-level advice and guidance to the Shire President and Councillors.

• Oversee efficient Council operations, focusing on financial management, governance and resource allocation.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies and industry leaders.

• Drive a positive organisational culture, focused on collaboration, staff wellbeing and performance excellence.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
This is a pivotal role for a highly motivated, strategic leader who is passionate about regional development and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading a local government entity with a strong emphasis on strategic planning, infrastructure development and financial sustainability. Demonstrated expertise in community and stakeholder engagement is essential and relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.
