Leading Roles presents the opportunity to join Cook Shire Council as its next Chief Executive Officer.

The new Chief Executive will lead a high performing executive team, and an organisation that is well-advanced in its strategic and operational leadership, its performance and is highly ambitious for its community and partners.

The council is well regarded for its leadership, collaboration and advocacy, and is achieving outstanding outcomes for its community across its spectrum of services. This has been reflected in council’s reputation as a regional leader, service delivery partner and in high levels of community satisfaction.

There are diverse and multi-faceted economic opportunities in play in the Cook Shire with substantial scope and scale across resources, agriculture and irrigation, space launch facilities and infrastructure development.  These projects will require investment, partnerships and strong networks and relationships with investors and funding agencies.

Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes

The Mayor and Council are seeking a CEO who has substantial experience in a local government executive position, and is a humanistic leader that inspires direction and purpose in the organisation.

Land title, Native title, land tenure and cultural heritage are important aspects of everyday decisions at Cook Shire, and experience in working with traditional owners and indigenous communities is desirable.

Working from Cooktown, the successful applicant will enjoy a great family lifestyle, regular air services, excellent medical facilities, choice of schooling and a variety of sporting and recreation options.

Based in the iconic and historic destination of Cooktown, in Far North Queensland, the Cook Shire Council services a vast area of Queensland's Cape York Peninsula and a population of around 4,750.
