Happy New Year and I wish you a happy and successful 2024.
In this first message for 2024, I wanted to take a moment to share some key updates regarding Leading Roles and the continued success we've achieved in the face of a challenging candidate-led market.
Nationally, we continue to experience low unemployment rates, especially within the technical skill groups of land-use planning and roads, transport and water infrastructure roles. This is driving candidate expectations for salary and working conditions upwards and creating very challenging recruitment and operating conditions for local governments everywhere. Leading Roles continues to navigate these challenges with expertise, resilience and determination, supporting our clients with high levels of service, advice and, most importantly, outstanding outcomes.
In a period where recruitment conditions are challenging, developing high-performing people and creating resilient, productive teams is more important than ever, and I am pleased to highlight the exceptional work of Leading Potential, our HR advisory business. The projects undertaken by our Leading Potential team have included leadership and culture development training, executive performance planning and review, mentoring and coaching, shifting the needle on councils’ most important resource – their people. We have also supported our clients through a range of independent reviews and confidential investigations.
On a bittersweet note, I must inform you of Rob Maxwell's decision to retire and relocate to New Zealand after more than six years with Leading Roles. Rob has been an integral part of our team, contributing significantly to councils through the placement of hundreds of engineering and infrastructure professionals. His expertise, professionalism, dedication and contribution as a senior member of our team will be sorely missed, and we extend our heartfelt best wishes for his retirement.
