Job Description

Executive Director City Infrastructure
City of Newcastle

  • Lead one of the largest infrastructure portfolios in regional Australia

  • Deliver a $130M–$150M capital works program and lead a 450-person directorate

  • Total Remuneration Package: $330,000 – $350,000

Lead one of the largest city-shaping infrastructure portfolios in regional Australia, in a vibrant coastal city known for its lifestyle, growth and connectivity.

At City of Newcastle, you don’t just work for the city – you help co-create it. Here, executive leadership translates directly into visible outcomes, shaping the places where people live, work and play. This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in Newcastle’s continued evolution as a liveable, inclusive and sustainable city.

City of Newcastle is a high-performing organisation at the heart of the Hunter region, delivering essential infrastructure and services to a growing and dynamic community. With strong financial capacity and a clear strategic vision, the organisation is focused on turning ambitious plans into real outcomes that matter.

City of Newcastle is seeking an exceptional executive leader to join as Executive Director City Infrastructure, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and forming part of a collaborative Executive Leadership Team.

The role sits at the centre of how the city plans, delivers and maintains its infrastructure, with responsibility for a capital works program of approximately $130M–$150M annually and leadership of a large, multidisciplinary directorate of around 450 people.

This is a critical leadership role during a period of transformation, with a clear mandate to strengthen delivery performance, governance and organisational discipline across a complex operating environment.

You will play a key role in aligning strategy, resources and delivery, building capability across the directorate and leading a high-performing workforce to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes for the community.

This is a rare opportunity to lead at scale while working alongside talented, passionate colleagues who care deeply about the city and the region it serves.

About you
You are an experienced executive leader with a background in infrastructure, engineering or asset-intensive environments.

You bring a proven track record delivering major capital programs, lifting organisational performance and driving improved delivery outcomes. You operate confidently in complex, politically sensitive environments and are able to influence, align and lead at scale.

You are a visible, values-led leader who builds capability, fosters accountability and delivers results.
