Hume City Council

  • Lead 34 early years services and a workforce of approximately 400 employees.

  • Drive business planning, service improvement and future portfolio direction.

  • Package $137,000 - $153,000 + super + vehicle allowance + hybrid working.

Hume City Council is seeking an experienced leader to oversee one of Victoria's larger local government early years portfolios comprising kindergarten, occasional care and long day care programs across a diverse and growing municipality.

Reporting to the Manager Family, Youth and Children, this role provides both strategic and operational leadership across a well-established service network. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to business planning, service improvement initiatives and the future direction of early years services, while leading a stable and experienced leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic and operational delivery of Council's Early Years portfolio.

  • Provide leadership and support to Regional Coordinators, Team Leaders and specialist support functions.

  • Contribute to business planning, service reviews and future service development.

  • Ensure services operate within regulatory, funding and compliance requirements.

  • Drive quality outcomes across the portfolio to ensure best practice and exceeding outcomes, informed by contemporary research.

  • Support workforce capability, succession planning and leadership development.

  • Build productive relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies and community partners.

About You
You are an experienced early years leader who can balance strategic thinking with operational leadership. You bring the ability to provide direction, build alignment across teams and contribute to long-term planning while maintaining a strong focus on service quality and community outcomes. Your leadership style is collaborative, relationship focused and centred on developing capability in others.
