Chief Executive Officer
Somerset Regional Council is seeking to appoint a proven, future focused and inspiring leader with the experience and ability to implement Council's vision of delivering an affordable and enviable lifestyle for their local community.
About the Role
The Council is seeking a Chief Executive Officer who has significant Local Government experience and exceptional leadership skills, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes. The successful candidate must have the economic, governance, business and financial acumen to lead Council while achieving results for the local community.
The position will be of interest to candidates who have experience in the following fields:
- Councillor and Community engagement
- Delivery of a performance and customer service culture within the workforce
- Economic Development
- Financial, Asset and Infrastructure Management
The CEO will lead a team of highly experienced and motivated Directors, in the delivery of key projects.

Somerset Regional Council employs 180 staff and has a budget of $44.4M. With an area of 5382 sq km, Somerset is the largest land mass sized local government in south east Queensland with strong agricultural, environmental, heritage and tourism values. Somerset is the fastest growing local government area in south east Queensland with a current population of 25,000 people. This figure is expected to grow to 34,500 by 2031.
About the Region
Somerset is located an hour west of Brisbane. Known for its wide-open spaces, country charm, and relaxed lifestyle, it is a short drive from the major cities of Brisbane, Ipswich and Toowoomba. The region encompasses five major townships, Fernvale, Lowood, Toogoolawah and Kilcoy, with Council's main administration office located at Esk - in the centre of the region.
